But how do these foot pads actually work? Here we look at their history, what they contain and how the work
History of foot detox pads
In traditional Eastern medical systems it is believed that there are acupuncture points throughout the body. Of the 360 points, 60 of these points are actually on the feet. It is also said that different parts of the body are reflected in the feet. This is part of the rationale behind reflexology. Following on from this it is thought that toxins from the various parts of the body can accumulate in the feet during the day. By removing these toxins the user will experience a better state of health and benefit from a boost in energy.
Ingredients
There are various different ingredients in the different formulations of foot detox pads. Commonly the ingredients contain bamboo vinegar, herbs to help the detoxification process, tourmaline and chitin. In Japan where the products have been available for many years there are different brands that may have slightly different ingredients.
How it works
When the pads are placed on the feet at night the ingredients in them draw toxins and impurities out of the skin. It is claimed that impurities, heavy metals, chemicals and even parasites can be removed in this way. The foot detox pads need to be worn over a period of several weeks, after which time the amount of toxins should reduce. This will be evidenced by the color of the pad in the morning. Instead of it being a dirty brown or gray color, it should be less discolored as time progresses.
